Every morning, my day starts by drinking a glass of pure water with the juice of half a lemon squeezed into it. I also add a small pinch of cayenne pepper. This refreshing drink is an important aspect of my lemon detox diet. It wakes up my digestive system and gets it ready for the important tasks it will perform all day long. It also serves an important function of flushing my liver and kidneys.
Many detoxification programs call for the use of fresh lemon. Doctors recommend drinking water with lemon to patients who suffer from kidney stones. Lemon is an alkaline fruit. While it may seem acidic going into your system, once it reaches your digestive tract, it turns alkaline. Maintaining alkalinity is important in keeping your body balanced and free of inflammation.
In order to maintain weight loss and facilitate a body that is free of toxic build up, we must eat a diet that is rich in organic fruits and vegetables. Eating highly processed foods is not only detrimental to ones health, but it will keep excess weight on your frame and create a build up of toxins in your colon.
Consuming enough water each day is vital to keeping yourself hydrated. We all need to be drinking at least half of our body weight in ounces of water every day. A complete lemon detox diet includes several glasses of lemon water. Detox Diet Water Lemon
For breakfast, fresh berries and other fruits will help to continue with the process of detoxification.
At lunchtime, a big salad that includes fresh leafy greens and a colorful array of vegetables is ideal. Enjoy a salad dressing made from olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh lemon, garlic, salt and pepper.
If you feel the need to snack in the afternoon, carry around a small bag full of homemade trail mix. Combine several types of unsalted (preferably raw) nuts and add some raisins, dried cranberries (without added sugar) and shredded coconut. This will provide high quality protein and a variety of other nutrients. Plus, it will fill you up until dinner time.
For dinner, prepare some wild caught, deep water fish high in omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon, tuna or mackerel. Add some freshly prepared veggies and a big salad. Stay away from fatty additives and prepared foods.
You will see quick results following this plan. Stay on it for as long as you feel comfortable. It is a healthy diet long term. If you desire, you can replace the fish with some free-range, grass fed meat or a whole grain dish. As a pasta, I prefer spelt or brown rice pasta.
